The North Carolina Highway Patrol was created in 1929 as a division of the State Highway Commission. The first patrolmen were issued Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and the lieutenants drove Model A Coupes. The 1930's ushered in the well recognized black over silver vehicles featuring the NCHP seal on the doors.
