The State of Louisiana became part of the United States in 1803 as a result of the Louisiana Purchase. The New Orleans Police Department dates to 1804. The NOPD trademark crescent star badge was first worn by policemen in the 1850's. In later years the crescent star would adorn department vehicles as it does today. This 1957 Ford police package was available with a 312 cubic inch V-8 which produced up to 270 horsepower.
