The Colorado State Highway Courtesy Patrol was established in 1935. The name changed to the Colorado State Patrol in 1945. In January of 1949 the Patrol purchased three Snowcats which were tracked vehicles for mountain rescues and maintaining high altitude radio relay stations. They were transported on trailers pulled by the shiny white, CSP, Ford F-1 pickups.
